A little more about Mrs. Cathey
My hometown is Brownsville, Tennessee and I attended schools in Haywood County, graduating from Haywood High School. My undergraduate work was completed at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Memphis State University (now The University of Memphis), and I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance.
After working in finance for a few years, I made the transition to education, completed the requirements for licensure, and received my Master of Arts in Education from Union University. I have taught various Business courses for 19 years at Haywood High School in Brownsville and South Gibson County High School.
My family includes my husband and our four children--a daughter and three sons. Our daughter is 24, married, an RN, and the mother of our precious grandson who was born September 1, 2013; one son is a senior at SGCHS; another is in the eighth grade at Medina Middle School; and our youngest is 21 months.
Approximately 16 years ago, my family relocated to Oakfield, Tennessee because of my husband's job, but I continued to commute to Haywood High. When I received the news that a new high school was under construction in Medina, I applied for a position and began teaching at SGCHS when the school opened its doors in August 2009.
Now, starting our fifth year, I can honestly say that I am proud to work alongside of so many dedicated, caring teachers, administrators, and support staff. It has truly been a privilege to help establish and grow South Gibson County High School!
